In life, is it better to be good or lucky? why?

Well I guess ignoring the fact that I actually do not believe in luck I would say that it is better to be good. Being lucky does not do anything for your personal development or say anything for your character. Luck feels good at first, oh yay I won a million dollars but there is no real reward. Have you ever wondered why people continue to work long after they need to or have retired? It is because they know that they ought to fulfill a purpose and not just pass the time in life having everything handed to them. In a sense, being good at things as opposed to being lucky puts your destiny in your own hands.
